Cut In Like Ronaldo – Learning The Ronaldo Chop

The Ronaldo Chop was firstly performed by Ronaldo back during his spell at Manchester United in between 2003 and 2009. Ever since then, it’s been performed by wingers in Sunday League all the way up to the champions league and its popularity has led the skill to appear in both Pro Evolution and the FIFA football games, as a result this skill is very popular.

Ronaldo began his career at Sporting CP and was instantly recognized as a prospect by Sir Alex Ferguson after the Man United match against Sporting. The skilful winger ended up making the move to Manchester United in 2003, aged 18, and went on to win the FA cup in his first season. He would then go on to win three consecutive Premier League titles, Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. The soon to be 5 “Ballon d’Or” winner went on to be one of the newest additions to Real Madrid’s Galacticos for a transfer fee of €94 million. Have a look at the Ronaldo Chop compilation below…

The Ronaldo Chop is best used in 1v1 situations versus the defender when running at full speed to quickly get past the defender, it can be used to help you slow down and place the ball in the right spot to either go for a pass, shot or to slow down the tempo to look for options. We have once again broken up this skill into three easy steps to make it easier to help teach your kids the Ronaldo Chop.

 - First you'll need to start dribbling.

 - Then jump above the ball and bring your weaker foot in front of the ball to act as a shield between the ball and the defender.

 - Then as you land, ‘chop’ the ball with your stronger foot, behind your weaker foot, at an angle to get past the defender.

 - Another tip for this skill is to learn how to perform the chop with both your feet, for more versatility, as you’ll be able to cut to either side of the defender.
