The Cruyff turn made its debut during the 1974 world cup match, Netherlands vs Sweden.
The three times Ballon d’Or winner started off his career at Ajax, winning multiple titles with Ajax, becoming the stop scorer in their league. He naturally garnered attention from the Barcelona Giants, and ended up transferring there in 1973.
The introduction of Cruyff to the team did wonders as they finally won a La Liga title after a dry spell of 14 years, defeating their fiercest rivals Real Madrid 6-1 and later he was crowned as European Footballer of the year in 1967.
Cruyff's managerial skills were as good as his football skills, as he is also well known for managing Barcelona and inspiring its next generation of coaches. You can see elements of his “total football” at Pep’s Manchester City and intense pressing at Klopp’s Liverpool.
