Following a triumphant summer, the Lionesses continue to make history as their open letter results in action: ensuring all girls get equal access to sports and a minimum of 2 hours of PE time a week.
International Women’s Day 2023 has been special for all parents, especially those of girls who love football. As outlined in the Government pledge, there will be a new standard set in schools. Not only will schools be asked to offer a minimum of two hours of PE curriculum a week, but girls and boys should be offered the same sports during both PE and extracurricular time.
All 23 European champions voiced their collective belief on the changes needed to ensure all girls at school get equal opportunities, as current figures suggest only 67% of all schools offer football equally to girls in PE lessons, and only 46% of schools have the same extracurricular opportunities as boys.
This game-changing decision is just the start of a new journey for all young footballers across the country. Football coaching and education stem much farther than the government or the walls of the classroom, but access to football at any time and place.
Here at Family FC, we believe it’s important that mums and dads get involved in football education. Whether it be a Saturday afternoon in the park or an evening in the garden, the love of football comes from these early experiences.
Being able to better understand the fundamentals of the game helps take the stress away of coming up with new drills while still allowing for learning and quality time while practising.
There has never been a better time for girls and boys to get involved with football, and with full programmes available for only £40 it has never been easier to support your child’s football development and passion.
