Another Summer of Footballing Fun: Enhance Your Child's Skills by Watching the Women's World Cup!
With the Women's World Cup games being broadcast daily, there's no reason why you and your family can't sit down and enjoy a game together.
But did you know that watching this summer's World Cup with your children can actually make them better footballers? Research has shown that watching football has a direct impact on the improvement of skills and the ability to understand the game! This phenomenon is known as nonconscious behavioural mimicry, which means that people tend to unwittingly imitate the behaviours of others, including footballers, all thanks to the mirror neurons in our brains.
Fun Fact: These neurons respond the same way whether we are the ones performing the activity or simply watching it!
Whether you're rooting for your beloved Lionesses, defending champions USA, or a tournament debutant, Family F.C. wants you to know that you are helping your child become a better footballer just by watching the games. And the football-watching fun doesn't have to stop after this summer - why not try and incorporate one Women's Super League (WSL) match per week into your footy viewing schedule?
While this is one occasion where we encourage children to sit down in front of the television, let's not forget that they still need to physically practise and put their learning to the test. For continued development, it's essential that our children learn from a combination of watching and playing.
If you're struggling to come up with meaningful drills to help keep your kids engaged, check out our courses, which have been created by a former professional footballer himself. We can assure you that our drills are both meaningful and enjoyable, leaving you with just one decision to make - whether you'll be practising in the garden or the park!
